얼마 전 Social OS란 용어를 접하고 Social이 앞에 붙은 신조어가 얼마나 될까 위키피디아를 검색해봤습니다.
조건은,

1. Social로 시작해야한다. 중간에 포함된 건 모두 제외
2. 인터넷이 활성화된 시기에 만들어지거나 각광받은 용어
3. 사회과학적인 전문 용어 제외
   

우선 원래 Social의 의미를 생각해보자면,

• attitudes, orientations or behaviours which take the interests, intentions or needs of other people into account (in contrast to anti-social behaviour)
• common characteristics of people or descriptions of collectivities (social facts)
• relations between people (social relations) generally, or particular associations among people
• interactions between people (social action)
• membership of a group of people or inclusion or belonging to a community of people
• co-operation or co-operative characteristics between people
• relations of (mutual) dependence
• the public sector ("social sector") or the need for governance for the good of all, contrasted with the private sector
• in existentialist and postmodernist thought, relationships between the Self and the Other
• interactive systems in communities of animal or insect populations, or any living organisms

대락 이 정도 범위가 Social에 해당한다고 볼 수 있습니다. 사람과 조직과 관련된 거의 모든 것이 Social에 해당하는 군요. 출처는 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social입니다.

그럼 영문 위피키디아에 Social something이 얼마나 있는지 50페이지 정도 살펴보고 웹과 관련이 있어 보이는 용어들을 추려봤습니다(더 이상은 지겨워서 도저히--;). 개인적인 기준에 의해 고른 용어기 때문에 의견이 있으시면 댓글 남겨주세요.

뉴스나 인터넷에 많이 노출된 용어라 그런지 익숙합니다. 용어들을 대략 살펴보니, 역시나 중첩되는 부분이 꽤나 많습니다.

1. 비슷한데 일부 의미가 다른 경우
2. 기존 용어 앞에 Social만 붙여서 의미 부여
   
3. 기존 용어 뒤에 단어를 붙여서 의미 세분화
   
4. 기존 용어와 동일한데 다른 단어를 사용

위키가 저 정도이며, 뉴스를 검색하면 더 많은 용어가 난무하고 있습니다. 위키에는 그래도 일반적으로 정의가능한 것들만 기재된다는 것을 고려하면 훨씬 많은 용어가 사용되고 있겠죠. 아무튼 대충 비슷하면 같이 쓰는 절약의 지혜가 필요한 시대입니다.
